Celebrating the Year of the Horse!

As we embrace a season of cultural festivities, we are excited to announce that The Island School will be celebrating the Lunar New Year on Tuesday, 17 February 2026!

Students across all divisions will dive into a day filled with tradition, creativity, and joy. From the rhythmic beats of the Dragon Dance to the intricate art of Calligraphy and festive Lantern Parades, our campus will be alive with the spirit of the new year.

Key Details:

  • Date: Tuesday, 17 February
  • Dress Code for students: Red & Gold (Symbolising good luck and prosperity!)

Let’s come together to wish each other happiness, prosperity, and a wonderful year ahead!

Detailed Programme Schedule

Here is the specific breakdown of events for each division:

1. Pre-Primary Division (08:30 – 12:30)

  • Morning: Joins the Whole School Assembly outdoors (08:30).
  • Activities: In-class creative stations including Lantern Crafting, making Lucky Envelopes, and Horse-themed decorations.
  • Highlight: A magical Lantern Parade at 11:30, where our youngest students will walk together to showcase their handmade lanterns.

2. Primary Division (08:30 – 12:50)

  • Kick-off: Whole School Assembly (08:30).
  • Highlight: A spectacular Dragon Dance performance by Class Waldorf 6, followed by a vibrant parade through the Montessori and Primary courtyards.
  • Rotations: Students will rotate between immersive cultural activities:
  • Japanese tea ceremony.
  • Festive Outdoor Games (Grade 1 & Montessori).
  • In-Class Crafts (Lanterns & Lucky Envelopes).

3. Secondary Division (11:05 – 12:05)

  • Format: Interactive Cultural Stations led by the Student Council.
  • Activities: Students will explore various traditions, including:
  • Trying on Korean Hanboks (Photo Booth).
  • Mahjong and "Go" Board Game tournaments.
  • Chinese Calligraphy and Lantern Painting.
  • Team building Festive Games.
