It may be the last week before the half-term break, but our students have been continuing their learning in Science.
Grade 6
Our grade 6 students have been studying Living Things and Characteristics of Living Things. They have researched the different classification kingdoms and have been learning about Stimulus and Response.
Grade 7
Our grade 7 students have been working with acids and alkalines. They have experimented with how acids and metals react, measuring their pH values. They investigated whether antacids/digestive pills actually work and how they work.
We witnessed hydrogen being produced when iron reacts with hydrochloric acid.

Grade 8
Our grade 8 students have been studying the Carbon Footprint. They have been looking at where resources are found, especially metals. In addition, they have performed experiments in the laboratory to study the Greenhouse Effect.
Grade 9
Our grade 9 Physics students have been studying Mechanical Work, efficiency, and Power. They have been experimenting with 2.5kg weights being pulled up an incline to estimate their efficiency. They have also been writing reflections on their experiments.
In grade 9 Chemistry students were practicing balancing chemical equations and calculating mass to mass problems.
In grade 9 Chemistry students were practicing balancing chemical equations and calculating mass to mass problems.
Grade 10
Finally, our grade 10 Physics students have been investigating Electrostatics. They have been demonstrating the charge distribution on the surface of a conductor, used a Faraday Ice Pail to observe and measure the potential difference and detect the presence of an unbalanced charge.

Grade 10 Biology students finished talking about DNA, replication, cell division and had demonstrated their understanding through a summative assessment.
Diploma Students
Diploma students did a virtual lab experiment on spirometry investigating how the forced vital capacity of the lungs changes with age/smoking/sex.
