Seasonal Flu & Respiratory Virus Precautions

Dear Colleagues,

Due to the increased activity of seasonal influenza, the Ministry of Health reminds the public of the personal protective measures that should be followed to prevent the spread of respiratory infections:

Protective Measures:

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with your elbow or a tissue when coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Ensure adequate ventilation in indoor spaces.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces (e.g., door handles, desks, phones) regularly.
  • Limit contact with people showing symptoms of respiratory infection, especially vulnerable groups.

If you develop symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath, runny nose, sore throat, headache, muscle or joint pain, fatigue, chills, vomiting, or diarrhea):

  • Self-isolate and wear a mask when around others.
  • Get tested (Rapid Test or PCR if indicated).
  • Contact your personal physician promptly for assessment, possible antiviral treatment, and further instructions.

Additional Recommendations from the School Nurse:

  • Avoid close contact with colleagues or students if you are unwell.
  • Encourage frequent hand hygiene among students and staff.
  • Remind students to cover their coughs and sneezes properly.
  • Monitor for any symptoms in yourself or students and report them promptly.

Vaccination against influenza, particularly for high-risk groups, remains the most effective way to prevent severe illness.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school community safe.

Kind regards,

Fiorendina Moustafa
