Grade 5 Explores Ancient Civilizations Through Pottery Art
2025-11-28 10:10
As part of their Unit of Inquiry, Where We Are in Place and Time, IB Grade 5 students explored civilizations through art by studying the features and decorative patterns of Greek and Cypriot pottery. They developed their skills in drawing, shaping, and decorating pottery or clay forms, while also understanding how ancient art connects to modern design and culture. Students reflected on their creative process and considered how their work was influenced by historical traditions. Through this unit, they developed their research skills by exploring patterns, textures, and designs, and comparing ancient and modern artistic techniques. To extend their classroom learning, students participated in a field trip to Fossaki Pottery Studio, gaining hands-on pottery experience.
