Waldorf Rose Ceremony Tradition: 1st Day of School
03 Sep 2026
At our Waldorf School, the first day of school begins with a special tradition for our first graders.
In the morning, the children arrive at Pre-Primary, a place they already know so well. From there, their teacher meets them, and together as a class, they walk through the school towards their new building, the place where their school journey begins.
Along the way, the children pass through an arch of flowers, symbolically leaving early childhood behind and taking their first step into a new chapter.
On the other side, older students are waiting to welcome them, each presenting a first grader with a rose. In the Waldorf tradition, the flower represents growth and unfolding: a child comes to school and, little by little, begins to blossom, grow, and discover the world around them.
The sound of the harp, flowers, stories told by their teachers and a whole new world ahead.
This is how the school journey begins for our first graders. A little journey from one world into another.
